JENI HANKINS
Jeni Hankins, a native of the coalfields of Southwest Virginia, is one half of the Appalachian Folk duo Jeni & Billy. She traces her vocal style to Virginia Lowe, the blind music minister of the Friendly Chapel Church on Smith Ridge, the Appalachian community in which she spent her childhood summers. While her singing has been compared to the lonesome voices of Maybelle Carter and Iris Dement, her writing has been likened to that of Southerners Carson McCullers, Flannery O’Connor, and Lee Smith. In fact Lee Smith is a fan and has this to say about Jeni's way with words: “Jeni is a true poet and a born storyteller, through and through -- many of her songs contain whole novels." Visit Jeni at

DESLEY TAYLOR
The first time I fell in love was when I was 4 years old, 1967. My Uncle Robby was staying with us in the old sugarcane country work barracks we lived in, outside of Ingham, Far North Queensland.  He got down his guitar from the ceiling rafters and started strumming. From then on I was smitten, strumming the strings and singing my first original song “Little Lamb”. Next I was an ungrateful little shit at age of maybe 7, turning my nose up at the pretend guitar I got for Christmas! Zoom forward to age 10, winning $25 at bingo with my grandma..cha-ching! What am I gonna spend it on?? A guitar! Yippee!
